Traditional face-to-face tutoring doesn’t always give students the best opportunities to learn. Some students need to go over questions multiple times and with online workbooks, students can go through the questions at their own pace and review their work later.
Why pay for someone to watch your child answer questions? During a face-to-face tutor session, tutors end up waiting for the students to attempt questions. Students might not be in the right mind set at the time to work at their best. At Mathsplus, we give students the workbooks and they can complete them at a time best for them and take as much time as they would like to complete them. Instead of students having part of an hour to complete questions with a tutor watching, our workbooks are an hour long to give our students more time to practice.
At the end of a face-to-face session, a tutor will give students a short amount of feedback on the work they have seen. Research shows that this feedback is where the main learning happens and at Mathsplus this is where we focus our time. Our tutors give live or video feedback on all the work the student has completed and explains in detail where they have missed marks. Student can then look at back at their workbooks and gives them a great resources to use to revise for upcoming tests in school.

Often face-to-face tutors will go through a list of topics that they have put together and go through one per lesson. At Mathsplus we use baseline assessments to gain an understanding of what our students need to work on. We create individualised plans for each of our students to really focus on what our students need.
We regularly provide our students with a set of mixed questions to assess the recall of previous topics taught, but also to continue to highlight any further misconceptions our students might have. By focusing on recall and retention we can make sure that our students will be able to tackle every topic when it comes up in future assessments, allowing for further success.

Last year we had a 100% pass rate for all our Year 11 students in their GCSE’s. During their time with Mathsplus each of our students made over one grade progress in less than 6 months. This year we have experienced many of our students gaining two grades progress within 6 months and looking forward to reporting a 100% pass rate again. We also have many other success stories of students moving up sets in school and gaining more confidence in their Mathematical ability.
